Every booking,
trusted
At Buurly, safety isn't optional. It's a standard part of every booking, for both renter and host, at no extra cost.
What does your own insurance cover?
Bookings aren't insured through Buurly. Instead, we've laid out clearly what most insurers do and don't cover for storage or vehicle storage at someone else's place, so you know where you stand beforehand.
Items in storage
Your contents insurance usually covers items you store elsewhere. Watch out for three sharp edges though.
- Termoften a maximum of 3 months, sometimes up to 2 years
- Capusually €5,000 to €7,500
- Break-in requirementtheft is only covered with signs of forced entry
Theft-sensitive items such as jewellery, art and laptops are often excluded in storage. Check the term ‘contents elsewhere’ in your own policy conditions.
Water damage
Sudden damage such as a leak or storm is usually covered by your contents insurance. Gradual damp and mould aren't covered anywhere.
For sensitive items, choose an indoor space and keep them dry: on a pallet or in a crate, not against an outside wall.
Car and motorcycle
Your comprehensive insurance applies across the Netherlands, including storage at a private individual's place. Usually the only requirement is that your vehicle is locked.
For parking and storage, your existing insurance simply continues. If in doubt, check your policy conditions or ask your insurer.
Boat
Boat insurance usually covers storage at a private individual's place, with security requirements for the trailer or the space.
Think of a hitch lock plus wheel clamp, or an enclosed space. Some policies require the owner of the property to live there themselves, which is often already the case on Buurly. Frost damage is only covered under extended comprehensive cover, with the requirement that the boat has been professionally winterised.
For hosts
You don't need to insure your renter's belongings. Do check whether renting out is allowed under your building and liability insurance.
Under Buurly's rental model, you have no duty of care as a host for what's in your space. Always mention known issues, such as a previous leak, honestly in your listing.
What insurers usually don't cover
- Gradual damp damage and mould
- Theft without signs of forced entry
- Theft-sensitive items such as jewellery, art and laptops, at some insurers
- Storage longer than your policy's maximum term
This overview is general. Conditions differ per insurer and per policy. If in doubt, always check your own policy conditions or contact your insurer.
